HOURLY SALARY RANGE: $27.78 - $37.08
SCHEDULE: Wednesday to Sunday from 9am to 5pm (subject to change)
JOB SUMMARY: UNDER THE GENERAL AUTHORITY OF THE DIRECTOR OF STUDENT SERVICES AND THE DEAN OF ARTS & GENERAL EDUCATION THE TECHNICIAN IS RESPONSIBLE FOR THE SUPPORT OF TEACHING ACTIVITIES (INCLUDING OUTDOOR EDUCATION TRIPS). IN ADDITION, THE TECHNICIAN IS RESPONSIBLE FOR ASSISTING THE SPORT AND RECREATION DEPARTMENT WITH THE TECHNICAL AND LOGISCAL SETUP REQUIRED FOR VARSITY GAMES AND RECREATIONAL ACTIVITIES. THE TECHNICIAN WILL ALSO BE RESPONSIBLE FOR REPAIRS AND MAINTENANCE NEEDED IN THE CASGRAIN SPORTS CENTER.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assists the Outdoor Education Physical Education teachers with:
- Equipment, logistics, first aid, Risk Management and transportation needs for Outdoor Education courses
- Onsite assistance to teachers and students on class trips
- Calibrate, maintain, and repair equipment and oversee inventory management and equipment procurement
- Ensure compliance with health and safety standards during use, handling, and storage
- May be asked to participate in field reconnaissance trips (scouting) to develop new outing possibilities, as well as the required safety and risk management protocols
- Ensure the safe handling of equipment by students during trips
- Assists the Physical Education department, as well as the Sports Centre with:
- maintenance, adjustments or minor modifications, and general repairs on specialized sports and outdoor education equipment used for pedagogical activities.
- Painting and minor touch ups
- Small construction projects, such as shelving in Equipment Room, canoe racks, etc
- Assists the Sports and Recreation Department with the technical and logistical setup required for varsity games and recreational activities, within established procedures and under the authority of designated teachers and supervisors.
- Perform other related tasks as required
QUALIFICATIONS
Diploma of college studies (DEC) in an appropriate specialty or a diploma or an attestation of studies which is recognized as equivalent by the competent authority,
Specific Requirements:
· Advanced Wilderness First Aid certification (AWFA 40h) is required
· Maintain up-to-date certifications in regular First Aid and moving water safety.
· Available to work at nights and on weekends
· Possessing the following certifications would be an asset:
o Swift water rescue technician (SRT)
o Rock climbing certification
o Paddling instructor – Canoe, Kayak, SUP
o Class II permit, with F endorsement, for Heavy Vehicle (autobus)
· Demonstrated ability to repair, install and maintain various outdoor and sports related pieces of equipment
· Autonomous – able to work with minimal supervision and has initiative.
· Work well in a team setting
· Capable of driving with a trailer attached to bus would be an asset
· 2 years experience in driving Heavy Vehicle (autobus) would be an asset
· Excellent communication, organization and interpersonal skills
· English (advanced oral, intermediate comprehension and written)
· French (intermediate oral, comprehension and written)
